Soon a Horse tests our Salt & Guts
Because whether a horse eats grass, hay, or a grain ration, it will not get all the necessary salts for its metabolism. That’s why it’s recommended to offer them a salt lick freely available...

Salt lick, but where’s the pepper?
Exactly 5 years and 9 months ago, I published an article about the use of salt licks and their benefits for horses
(read the article here!).
Time has passed (and quite a lot, ouch), so it's time to refresh your memory!
We’re crazy but loving it. |
So, why a salt lick?
A salt lick is a nutritional supplement that provides minerals – among other things – to horses. There are pure versions (white salt, Himalayan pink salt...), brown ones (with molasses), or flavored ones in all kinds of tastes.
A salt lick should always be available to the horse, whether in a stall or out in the field. Nature is wise – the horse will lick the block
only when its body needs it, and only when it needs it!
(So best to avoid flavored ones – these greedy animals might lick it just for fun!)
The SALT & GUTS salt lick by Horse Remedy
This is the Salt & Guts block, offered by Horse Remedy.
It's part of the "StableGuts" range. I'm a huge, huge fan of this shop –
one of the rare ones offering probiotics, yeasts, effective microorganisms...
In short: natural products that are naturally effective!

Let’s talk about this salt lick.
So, it’s made of Mediterranean Sea salt and live yeasts. NOTHING ELSE!
No nasty additives, no overly sweet molasses, no synthetic vitamins.
Nope, only the good stuff.
Live yeasts activate only once inside the digestive system. That’s where they work their magic and help balance the gut microbiota.
They also improve the digestion of your hay-devouring horse.
But this awesome block has more to offer! It also helps:
- stimulate drinking behavior,
- deliver a dose of electrolytes,
- enhance coat and hoof quality...
Just take a look at the pictures to see how much they enjoy it.
My horse clearly approves: as soon as I offered it, he started licking!
